We sell on these terms exactly as stated – please read them before you order and only accept if you find them fair.
Who we are

The work
Every painting is an original, one-of-a-kind work by Mariia Sokolova, signed and supplied with a certificate of authenticity. Descriptions, dimensions and photographs are given in good faith; small variations in colour between screen and canvas are inherent to the medium.
Prices and payment
Prices are in pounds sterling and include tracked worldwide shipping by the standard method. Optional services (stretched delivery) are priced at checkout. Payment is in full: by card or wallet through Stripe, taken at the time of order, or by bank transfer – the work is then reserved for 5 days while the transfer arrives, and the order goes ahead once the money is in. A bank transfer must reach us in full, in pounds sterling: choose the option where you pay all charges (often called “OUR”). Approximate prices in other currencies are indicative only; your bank converts at its own rate.
Import taxes
Original paintings (commodity code 9701 91) are duty-free in the EU, the US and most other countries. Where your country charges import VAT or GST, or the courier charges a customs processing fee, we calculate it at checkout, show it as one separate line and prepay it to the courier on your behalf, so nothing is due on delivery. The line is our estimate: if the actual charge is lower we refund the difference; if it is higher we cover it. We ship by checkout only to the countries listed there; for any other country, email us and we confirm the exact landed cost before you order.
Your right to cancel
If you are a consumer, you may cancel an order for a ready-made work for any reason within 14 days of receiving it, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (UK) or Directive 2011/83/EU (EU); we apply the same right to every consumer buyer, wherever they live. You then send the painting back within 14 days of telling us – with the prepaid return label we email you, whose cost is deducted from your refund (up to £90 in the UK, £200 in the EU, £300 in the United States and £350 elsewhere), or by a courier of your choice, insured, at your own cost and risk. We refund within 14 days of receiving the painting back, in pounds sterling, to the card or bank account you paid from, less the loss in value of a work that was used rather than examined; any exchange-rate difference or charge your bank applies is not ours to cover. A payment by bank transfer is refunded as the amount in pounds sterling that reached our account, to the account it came from; charges taken by any bank on the way – yours or an intermediary’s – and any exchange-rate difference are not ours to cover. How the painting’s condition is recorded and checked is set out below, under Condition on delivery and on return; what counts as use is on the Returns & cancellation page. Commissioned works made to your specification are exempt from this right.
Delivery and risk
We dispatch within 5 working days by tracked courier, stretched or rolled as chosen at checkout, delivered against a signature. Risk passes to you on delivery. What happens when the painting arrives is set out below, under Condition on delivery and on return.
Condition on delivery and on return
1. Before dispatch we photograph the painting – front, back, edges, corners and, when applicable, stretcher – and film it being packed. These records are dated and kept.
2. Every parcel is delivered against a signature. The courier’s delivery record is proof of when it was delivered and who signed.
3. When the courier records delivery, we email you a link. You must use it within 48 hours of delivery to confirm that the painting arrived in good condition, or to tell us it did not. If there is damage, photograph the packaging and the painting, and keep all the packaging.
4. If you confirm good condition, or you have not told us of any damage within 48 hours of the recorded delivery, we rely on that, together with our dispatch records, as evidence that the painting reached you undamaged.
5. If you cancel, you send the painting back within 14 days of telling us. Use the prepaid return label we email you, whose cost is deducted from your refund, or a courier of your choice at your own cost and risk.
6. Before sending, you must photograph the painting – front, back, edges, corners and stretcher (the canvas alone if rolled) – film it being packed in one continuous take, and send us the photographs and the film using the upload link in our return email. Any phone camera will do. Our return email repeats these steps.
7. When the parcel reaches us, we film it being opened and compare the painting with our dispatch records, the delivery record, your confirmation, and your photographs and film.
8. If your film shows the painting undamaged and properly packed, and it reaches us damaged, the damage happened in transit: you receive a full refund, including the return cost, and we deal with the courier.
9. If you have not sent us the photographs and the film, and the painting reaches us damaged in packaging that shows no sign of damage in transit, the damage is treated as having happened before it was packed, while the painting was with you, and we deduct its loss of value – up to the full price. We set out any deduction in writing, with photographs.
10. We refund within 14 days of receiving the painting back, in pounds sterling, to the card or bank account you paid from.
11. None of this affects your right to cancel.
Copyright
Copyright in every work remains with Mariia Sokolova. Purchase of a painting does not include the right to reproduce it. The artist asserts her moral rights.
Variations
Mariia may revisit a sold composition as a new, individually hand-painted original on commission. Such works are never copies, are titled and numbered separately, and are disclosed as variations.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. Nothing in them affects your statutory rights.
